This is the largest building in the complex, constructed by the Templars in the twelfth century and later modified when the castle was used as an artillery barracks. Rectangular in plan, it is covered by an impressive pointed barrel vault. This grand hall served as both the Refectory and the Chapter House of the Templar Order, and a partition wall likely separated the two spaces originally.

The Chapter House is so named because it was where the Chapter or Council met to decide on the admission of new members, sign financial agreements, and handle official business.

The Refectory was the dining hall where the knights took their meals together. Today, this room has been restored to host various cultural events. Inside, you can visit the Interpretation Centre of the Order of the Temple, which will give you an in-depth look at these legendary knights. The display on the left covers the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, the Crusades, and the origin, foundation, and history of the Templars;

you can also view seals, symbols, emblems, as well as their strict Rule, organization, and daily lifestyle. The display on the right focuses specifically on the history of the Temple in Spain, Aragon, and right here in Monzón.
