The magnificent view from this vantage point highlights just how strategic the location of Monzón Castle truly is, offering complete visual command over several neighboring regions.
It dominates the Cinca Valley, a vital communication route connecting the south of the province with the Pyrenees. On clear days, several Pyrenean peaks, such as Cotiella or Peña Montañesa, are clearly visible on the horizon. During the Middle Ages, a large portion of the territories you see below belonged to the Templars.
In the twelfth century, in addition to this castle, they received the rights to a great number of towns and properties throughout the Cinca Valley, including orchards, vineyards, crop fields, mills, and salt flats. Their domains stretched from the area of Cofita to the north, all the way to Alfántega and Binéfar to the south.
