Crossing this gate brings you into the area where the castle's inner rooms and quarters begin. The spaces you have walked through so far can be considered part of the outer defensive walls.

The upper part of this gate is protected by a row of loopholes for musketry. To secure this entrance even more effectively, it was equipped with a portcullis—a solid iron grille that was raised and lowered using heavy chains. To your right stands the guardhouse for this gate, a small structure built for the sentinels responsible for controlling access.

From here, following a corridor that protected the access ramp, the guards could reach a defensive terrace known as the "Barbette Battery." From this spot, you can enjoy an excellent panoramic view over the city.
