Before you stands the cistern, a reservoir designed to store rainwater. Right next to the door of the stables, you can see the settling well and the channel that collected water from the ramp.
From there, the liquid flowed into a second settling well and was then carried by a small channel to the cistern, arriving completely clean.
A cistern was an essential element in any fortress, as defenses had to be fully prepared to withstand long sieges. On the upper esplanade of the castle, there is another, even older cistern. Without a doubt, these structures provided vital water to the defenders during the brutal sieges this castle suffered, such as those during the War of the Spanish Succession around 1705, and the Peninsular War at the beginning of the nineteenth century.
