You are standing in a tower that belongs to the original medieval layout of the castle. It is known as the "Tower of James I," because this famous Aragonese king—later nicknamed "The Conqueror" due to his victorious military campaigns—lived here during part of his childhood.

The young king spent three years here under the guardianship and tutelage of Guillem de Mont-rodón, who rose to become the Master of the Temple in Catalonia, Aragon, and Provence.

The building has two floors and a rooftop terrace. The ground floor was used as a prison by the Templars, and inside you will find numerous stonemasons' marks carved into the stone blocks.
